Property Maintenance

The Property Maintenance Official is responsible for upholding and enforcing the Town of West Point Code of Ordinances and the Virginia Maintenance Code, both of which promote clean, safe, and attractive neighborhoods. These codes and ordinances have been adopted by the Town of West Point.

The Property Maintenance Official is responsible for investigating complaints as well as initiating investigations on violations observed during property maintenance evaluations. Complaints are generally investigated within 24 hours, while emergencies that present a threat to the health and welfare of the community are handled immediately.

To report a violation, please complete a property maintenance inspection request form and email to it to Ron Minick: rminick@west-point.va.us.  

Building Code & Property Maintenance

  • Property maintenance, limited to commercial and residential structures within the Town of West Point
  • Property deterioration
  • Window and doors
  • Peeling paint
  • Building without permits

Zoning Ordinance  

  • Tall grass and weeds within the Town of West Point
  • Overgrowth, yard debris
  • Large items (appliances, furniture, etc.)
  • Trash
  • Junk cars
  • Fences
  • Property uses
  • Building setbacks (the distance from the building to the property line)

If You Were Cited

If you were cited for a violation and would like to speak to the Property Maintenance Official, please call the Building Department at (804) 804-3426. Our goal is to obtain voluntary compliance, and therefore most reasonable requests for extra time or for referrals for special assistance are granted, whenever possible.

Timing

To be fair to all parties involved, the Property Maintenance Official is required to notify property owners of violations and provide adequate time for the violations to be abated. It may take several weeks to complete the process before the violation is corrected. During this time, we are actively pursuing correction of the violation, and we appreciate your patience.
